The orographic demands of the Clásica de Torredonjimeno brings back a Cup led by Pietrobon

XXXVIII Clásica Ciudad de Torredonjimeno / Copa de España
Torredonjimeno – Torredonjimeno (165 km)

The hardness of Torredonjimeno tests this Sunday the leadership of Andrea Pietrobon in the Spanish Cup and the good dynamics of EOLO-KOMETA U23 in this start of season. The Italian travels to Andalusia at the top of a classification in which he is three points ahead of Basque Andoni López de Abetxuko and 40 ahead of Cantabrian Ángel Coterillo, previous leader. The approach does not vary in how to face the challenge, however: test by test, thinking specifically about fighting every race.

Together with Pietrobon, David Domínguez, Ramón Fernández, Arnau Gilabert, Antonio González, Fran Muñoz and Pablo Uría will start in the Clásica de Torredonjimeno. A very reliable team in winding terrain and when the road is uphill. They offer a lot of both every year in the Jaén event. Domínguez and Gilabert come from competing in Italy and Fran Muñoz, winner in Ontur, was competing in Ghent-Wevelgem with the Spanish national team in the Nations Cup. Fernández and Uría were at a very high level in Ontur and González continues rooting in the category with a great work.

“I feel very well and I’m looking forward to competing. This week without competition has been great for me to recover both my mind and my body. In the end running every week in Spain has a ‘heavy’ point with the flights, travel, training, races…. It all adds up to wear and tear and the rest is welcome. I have been studying Torredonjimeno and it is a race that can be adapted to my characteristics. But I’m travelling without pressure. We will give our best, as we do in every race. And the points will be a consequence”, says Italian Andrea Pietrobon from his home.

The stage is complex. The chain of the Puerto de Locubín and the Alto de Valdepeñas in the second part of the race is a very tough terrain. But before and after the race, the riders will also have to manage tough terrain. “The whole race is very tough, with a course that has little room for recovery. In the final part of the race there are always groups of riders and sometimes there have been about twenty riders with a chance of winning”, says sports manager Félix García Casas.

“We have a strong team. Pietrobon can do well in this profile and other riders are also in good shape, such as Fran Muñoz. We continue with our line of work, we will try to fight to win the race. And maintain the level as a team for the overall team classification. The team general is always very important for us, as it gives value to the sensational work that all the riders do”, he concludes.
