Fernando Tercero repeats on the overall podium in Salamanca, where Javi Serrano and Manuel Oioli are close to the last victory

50 Vuelta Ciclista a Salamanca
Stage 3: Doñinos – Salamanca (142 km)

Fernando Tercero from La Mancha finished third overall in the 2022 edition of the Vuelta Ciclista a Salamanca, the 50th edition of the race since it was first held, after a final stage that ended in Calle San Pablo in the Spanish capital with Javi Serrano and Manuel Oioli fighting for a partial victory that went to the Uruguayan Thomas Silvas (Previley). The overall went to Mexico’s Edgar Cadena (Telco’m).

Up to four riders of the U23 structure of the Contador Foundation (Serrano, second; Oioli, third; Raccagni, seventh; Tercero, ninth) finished in the top 10 of a frenetic final stage (44.2 km/h average) in which several breakaways took place, some with representation of the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team by Manu Oioli.

The most consistent breakaway, the one that established the hardest pulse with the peloton, was formed after the 60th kilometre and was composed by five riders. The breakaway was followed by a group of 19 riders with three ‘blue’ riders (Antonio González, Manuel Oioli, Javi Serrano), but the group did not manage to finish. At the finish, with a lot of work by the team led by Gorka Beloki, finally a mass sprint.

“The final taste is a bit bittersweet, as we came with the intention of winning the general classification”, says Fernando Tercero, who repeats his third place on the podium from last year’s edition. “In the end, losing almost a minute to Edgar on the first day meant that yesterday I had to take more responsibility on the climb to Portillo de Las Batuecas. Both Edgar Cadena and Saúl Burgos knew how to play their cards right. I would like to make a special mention to the team, they did a spectacular job on the queen stage and it was a pity they couldn’t finish it off”.
