Valladolid, with its Memorial Ángel Lozano, awaits an EOLO-KOMETA in the process of growth
X Memorial Ángel Lozano
Valladolid –Valladolid (160,5 km)
Growing without giving up. The U23 and elite structure of the Fundación Contador travels this weekend to the city of Valladolid (also called between Spaniards like Pucela) to compete in the Memorial Ángel Lozano, fourth race of the Copa de España 2021, of great memory for the team led by Rafa Díaz Justo. In this race, held in August last year due to the pandemic, David Martín won and climbed to the provisional leadership of the tournament.
The Andalusian will be one of the seven riders who will take part on Sunday in the tenth edition of the race organised by the Club Deportivo Pucela. Martín comes from finishing seventh in a much more mountainous Clasica de Torredonjimeno, scoring 50 points that have allowed him to climb up to 35 positions in the provisional general classification of a Cup in which the best EOLO-KOMETA rider is still Fernando Tercero, seventeenth.
Along with David Martín and Fernando Tercero from La Mancha, the Balearic Joan Martí Bennassar, Alejandro Luna from Madrid, Álex Martín from Catalonia, Yago Segovia from Asturias and Vicente Hernaiz from Castilla-León will also be competing in Valladolid. The Spaniard was third in 2020 and knows the roads of this race like few others. Hernaiz, yes, will be racing at home. The route to manage will be again the 160.5 kilometres with up to seven punctuated climbs and the threat that the wind may blow.
Joan Martí Bennassar: “The Valladolid race is one of the toughest races in the Cup if the wind blows hard. Normally there is a large group of riders and because of the terrain on which it takes place, it is clear that together with Ontur and Don Benito are the ones that I like the most and where I feel most at home. I’m going to work hard for my team-mates who have a lot of speed. Of course, if I get the slightest chance, I’m going to take it without hesitation. I’m really looking forward to it. And so is the team”.
