The Sevillian David Martín, with the Spanish team in the European Cycling Championships of Plouay

European Cycling Championships (route)
Thursday 27: Plouay-Plouay (136.5 km)

The Andalusian rider David Martin will represent the Kometa-Xstra Cycling Team U23 in the European Championships that will be celebrated during this week finally in the French Brittany, exactly on the same routes where the Plouay Grand Prix takes place.

The cyclist from Mairena de Aljarafe, present weeks ago in a more numerous call of preparation in which Vicente Hernaiz, Arturo Grávalos and Joan Martí Bennasar were also present, has been called by Ramón González Arrieta for a race in which he will share training with Raúl García, Carlos Rodríguez, Oier Lazkano, Jon Barrenetxea and Roger Adriá. The six of them, who stood out from the Spanish Federation, are in great shape.

In the case of Martín, the Seville native is enjoying a great 2020 season, despite the competitive break caused by the health emergency, and he is travelling with the expedition as the virtual leader of the Spanish Cup, winner of his last race (the Ángel Lozano Memorial in Valladolid) and winner in the overall final and in the two stages of the Manolo Sanroma Memorial in Almagro.

“I am very excited about the call, as it is the first time I face an international competition with the national team, as well as the fact of competing outside Spain, as it will be my first time. I travel with the highest motivation, because this year I had the opportunity to learn a lot and things are going well. The circuit of Plouay is a classic route in the world of cycling, but the competition is going to be huge. I’m happy to help my colleagues and to be at Ramontxu’s service. We hope that the race will allow us to have options to compete with some of us”, explains Martin.

The Kometa-Xstra Cycling Team rider will compete in the online race, which will be held on Thursday, from 09.00 hours, in the circuit that hosts the Plouay Grand Prix every year and which was the venue for the 2000 World Championships. The 13.65 km track, with three levels (Cote du Lezot, Montée de Lann Payot, Cote du Pont-Neuf), consists of ten laps of the circuit.
