Sergio Hernández leave the discipline of Kometa U23

After five and a half seasons within the sports structures of the Fundación Alberto Contador, Sergio Hernández has decided to end his career as a rider of the Kometa Cycling Team.

The 21-year-old cyclist from Ávila had been considering the idea for some time. A few days ago he exposed his concerns to the sports management of an Fundación Alberto Contador that showed his understanding and gave him all the support in his decision.

“I am in my last year as U23 and the truth is that I feel that I need to find myself; I want to see how far I can go, see what I can do. I don’t know if I’m wrong or not, it’s something that time will tell. In training I feel good, but it is in the competition where you really know your place, the competition is the one that tells you everything and I feel that I need to compete much more to know if I have a site or if I have to devote myself to something else”, says Hernández.

The rider from Avila joined the junior team of the Fundación Alberto Contador in 2014 and in 2016 he jumped to the U23 team, where he has remained ever since. During all these years Hernández has stood out for his commitment with his teammates and his professionalism towards the team.

“It has been a real pleasure to be able to count on Sergio in the team during all these years. A boy with magnificent qualities for this sport, very complete and very committed. We wish him the best for the future”, says Félix García Casas, general manager of the Foundation’s teams.
