David Martín, after his experience with the professionals: “It was amazing”

The first race of the season in the professional continental calendar was also the first experience for David Martín from Seville against professional riders. The Andalusian rider of the U23 structure of the Contador Foundation competed as a member of the Spanish national team. It was an experience that he has lived with intensity.

“It’s been an amazing day”, he smiles, “I’ve enjoyed it like a little boy on Epiphany. It’s true that the changes have modified the race a lot and possibly determined its development, but they have also made it even easier to ride at a high pace all day”.

The rider from Mairena de Aljarafe, when asked about what surprised him most about the day, had no doubts: “The speed. It’s been ‘on fire’ all day, as we say in our slang. And how it goes down! It’s incredible the downhill of the Coll de Rates”.

Martín finished 38th, leading a first chasing group that was seven seconds behind the first 37 riders. “The experience is the important thing. There were riders of a very high level. It was a pleasure to be able to ride against my ‘older’ teammates in the EOLO-KOMETA. Hopefully I can be there with them next year, it will be a sign that we have continued to work well. Although if I have to keep one thing out of the many that I have experienced, it has been to see that I have been able to pass the top of the mountain with the first riders, well in front”.
