Daniel Viegas, from Polartec-Contador Foundation to Trek-Segafredo training camp in the Alps

7 July, 2017

Daniel Viegas will be the representative of the Polartec U-23 Team in the next training camp organized by Trek-Segafredo Team in the Alps, which will be attended by a total of nine young European cycling promises.

The Portuguese Daniel Viegas has been selected this time, and despite being only in his first year as Under-23, he has shown great qualities both as a rider and as a person. “He has won this invitation on his own merits”, says Fran Contador. “It will be good to get acquainted with a ProTour team, although we also had other candidates, but the proximity of this training camp with some important races has prevented more riders from the Foundation to go there”.

The responsible of the Trek-Segafredo youth program is Ivan Basso, who follow with special dedication all teams associated with this project. “Every week we maintain contacts with the teams we follow to see how their riders evolve. We are working with the Italian teams Altopack, Viris and Zalf, with the Belgian EFCLR and with the Polartec of Alberto Contador”, says the double winner of the Giro d’Italia. “In total, nine amateur riders will come to this first training camp, for whom this invitation is not only that, but the beginning of a long relationship, because with this work we want to train those who will be our riders in the future”.

This call, from 9 to 15 July in the Alps, will also be attended by some ten riders of Trek-Segafredo, “will be only the first of several that are planned to invite this season the young people we follow within our working group”, explains Basso. “When I look back, it would have been incredible for me to spend a week with a group of professionals like these. I think for our youngsters this week will be especially exciting and will motivate them to continue working hard, while are being known by Trek-Segafredo technicians”.
