Colombian Jhon Stiven Ramírez will not compete in 2020 with the Kometa-Xstra Cycling Team U23

News · 26 January, 2020

The Kometa-Xstra Cycling Team u23 will suffer a small retouch in its final composition, which will be presented in society this Monday January 27 at Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort, and finally will be formed by twelve riders after the non-continuity in the project of the Colombian Jhon Stiven Ramírez has been specified in recent days.

The Anserma Caldas rider, who has been living in Tarancón (Cuenca) during the last cycling seasons, will not continue to be linked to the team by decision of the sports management. A measure derived from the breach of a series of commitments on the part of a commercial firm that allowed him to travel and stay in Spain to continue with his sporting career.

Ramírez joined the team at the end of May 2018, when he was on trial with the u23 team. Already from the first race he made clear his aptitudes with a top ten overall in the Vuelta a A Coruña, a great classification followed by a fifth place in the final general of the always demanding Vuelta a Castellón. In 2019, fully integrated in the team directed by Rafa Díaz Justo, he signed an outstanding seventh place in the eighth stage of the Giro d’Italia U23, a day in which he was part of the breakaway.

Ramirez’s first steps in the world of cycling, however, came through mountain biking, a discipline in which he excelled at the regional level from an early age. Eventually, he was proposed to take the leap to the route, a modality that he himself pointed out at the time has a greater margin of progress in his country.

Being a cadet, and with hardly one week taking the road bike, Ramírez competed in the Vuelta al Futuro, Colombian race for the category. “I did like eighteen or so”, he remembers. The following year, in his last year as a cadet, he would finish fourth. In 2016, as a juvenile, he had the opportunity to face his first races in the Spanish calendar, circumstance that would be repeated also in 2017.

The management of the Alberto Contador Foundation would like to thank him for his commitment during this time and wish him every success in his promising career.
