Álex Martín, spearhead of EOLO-KOMETA U23 without complexes in Giro del Belvedere

82º Giro del Belvedere
Villa di Villa – Villa di Villa (166,8 km)

The Montaner climb, a kilometre and a half over 10.5% gradient that the riders had to overcome twice in the final part, was the place where the identity of the winner was decided, but on the approach to the first pass the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team U23 took the reins of the race through David Martín to smooth the approach to Álex Martín. The race was won by Spaniard Juan Ayuso, while Álex Martín again rode at the front to finish 27th, 40 seconds behind the winner.

“We had to manage two very hard climbs in the final part. On the first one, we positioned Álex very well, and he finished with all the favourites. In the second one Álex was in front, but almost at the top he was left behind and it was difficult to catch up because it was practically a matter of going down and reaching the finish line. We are getting closer to our objectives and soon we will surely see some nice things”, says director Rafa Díaz Justo.

Davide Piganzoli was 2’50” behind. At 4’20”, in a large peloton, finished David Martín, who did a great job on Monday, and Andrea Montoli. “It’s been two incredible days in which I’ve been able to work with the staff and my teammates for the first time. The two races were very hard, but this Monday I was able to finish and I’m very satisfied”, said Montoli, who is facing his first tests in the new category.
