Track: Bennassar, in the fight for medals in the Individual Pursuit and the Scratch
Spanish Track Cycling Championships
Tafalla (Navarra) from 23 to 27 September
The Kometa-Xstra Cycling Team U23 rider Joan Martí Bennassar once again demonstrated his great performance at the velodromes with a double presence in the finals of these Spanish Track Cycling Championships that are being held in the town of Tafalla, Navarra, from this Wednesday.
The cyclist from Marratxí, recent winner of the last stage of the Volta a la Provincia de Valencia, caressed the medal in the Individual Pursuit race, an event in which he finished behind Eloy Teruel from Murcia, Illart Zuazubiskar from the Basque Country and Erik Martorell from Catalonia.
Bennassar had set himself the goal of the fight for the medals and he managed to achieve this. In the preliminary round he beat the Catalan Eric Catalán and did so with the fourth best time of the series that gave him the classification to fight for the medals: 4:40.168. In the final B, against the also U23 cyclist Erik Martorell, he scored a 4’38″981 against the 4’35″614 of the Catalan.
“I am not completely satisfied, I wanted to win, but it could not be. I’m happy because I gave everything and I got a better time than in the qualifying round, from which I had come out a little disappointed. In the end I was fourth overall and second in the U23 category”, he explained about his performance in the Pursuit.
In the afternoon, the eldest of the Bennassars took part in a Scratch final for which he had qualified in the morning. “It was a very fast race, without a moment to breathe,” he said. In the end he finished sixth, fourth among the riders in the U23 category.
