Barceló, segundo en Volta A Coruña en su primer año sub 23
Fernando Barceló, debutante en la categoría sub-23, confirmó su gran potencial en la Vuelta A Coruña, al terminar segundo de la general final frente a corredores élite. El aragonés terminó en el mismo tiempo del vencedor, que sólo logró batirle al sprint el primer día de la ronda.
La Vuelta A Coruña se disputó en tres etapas en línea, de las cuales la primera fue la más decisiva, pues Fernando Barceló llegó solo a la línea de meta junto a Pedro Merino (Froiz), jugándose la victoria al sprint, en el que la mayor experiencia de su rival, un ex profesional, acabó imponiéndose.
Merino se había marchado solo en el último puerto de la jornada, pero Berceló arrancó desde atrás hasta cazar en solitario a falta de unos 10 kilómetros para la meta, donde se precipitó al lanzar el sprint desde demasiado lejos.
En la segunda etapa, el Froiz controló desde el principio y permitió que una fuga llegara a meta, a la espera de la tercera y decisiva jornada, la etapa reina. David Casillas, otro de los corredores del Specialized que atraviesa un gran momento de forma, logró la segunda plaza del día.
El Specialized-Fundación Alberto Contador fue el protagonista de la batalla, en la tercera y última etapa, la jornada reina. Tras una dura batalla, el grupo de cabeza quedó reducido a unas 20 unidades, donde Merino marcaba estrechamente la rueda de Barceló, apoyado por Casillas. En meta, Barceló terminó quinto, pero no fue suficiente para superar por puestos a Merino.
El equipo de Rafa Díaz Justo repitió en A Coruña la misma clasificación final que en la Vuelta a Bidasoa, donde también fue segundo con Enric Mas. “Quiero felicitar a mis corredores porque han luchado a tope para intentar conseguir la victoria. El trabajo que están haciendo comienza a dar sus frutos y pronto llegará más resultados”, dijo el director del Specialized-Fundación Alberto Contador, cuyo próximo compromiso será la Vuelta a Navarra, dentro de dos semanas.

Barceló, second on the podium in A Coruna in his first year under 23
Fernando Barceló debutants on U23 category, confirmed his great potential in the Tour of A Coruña, finishing second overall against elite riders. The rider from Aragón finished in the same time of the winner, who only managed to beat him in the sprint of the first day.
The A Coruna Tour took place in three stages, of which the first was the most decisive, as Fernando Barceló arrived alone at the finish line with Pedro Merino (Froiz), playing ther victory in the sprint, in which the greater experience of his opponent, a former professional, finished imposed.
Merino had gone alone at the last climb of the day, but Berceló pulled from behind to hunt alone at 10 10 kilometers to go, where he rushed to launch the sprint from too far.
In the second stage, Froiz team controlled from the start and allowed a breakaway to arrive, waiting for the third and final day, the queen stage. David Casillas, another Specialized rider traversing a great form, took second place of the day.
The Specialized-Alberto Contador Foundation was the protagonist of the battle in the third and final stage. After a fierce fight, the leading group was reduced to about 20 units, where Merino closely marked Barceló’s wheel, supported by Casillas. In the finish, Barceló finished fifth, but it was not enough to overcome by positions Merino.
Rafa Diaz Justo team repeated in A Coruña the same final classification than in the Tour of Bidasoa, where it was also second with Enric Mas. “I want to congratulate my riders because they have fought to the end trying to get the victory. The work they are doing is beginning to bear fruit and soon will come more results”, said the director of the Specialized-Alberto Contador Foundation, whose next appointment will be the Vuelta a Navarra, within two weeks.
