Alberto Contador presentó en Segovia sus equipos Specialized-Sub23 y Flex-Junior para la temporada 2014, con los que da un paso más en su labor de apoyo al ciclismo de base, iniciada el año pasado a través de su Fundación.

Después de poner en marcha en 2013 el equipo Junior, este año la Fundación Alberto Contador crece y consolida su trabajo con un nuevo equipo Sub-23, lo que ha hecho aumentar  hasta 28 el número de jóvenes ciclistas enrolados en este proyecto, del que sigue siendo máximo responsable deportivo José Luis de Santos, secundado ahora por los también ex corredores profesionales Félix García Casas y Rafa Díaz Justo.

Fran Contador, mánager y responsable de la Fundación, ha logrado potenciar el proyecto con la llegada de nuevos patrocinadores, en especial Flex y Northgate, que se unen así al apoyo que presta desde el primer momento Specialized. En el acto celebrado hoy en Segovia, con el alcalde de la ciudad, Pedro Arahuetes, ejerciendo de anfitrión, también estuvieron presentes el director general de Specialized España, Miguel Rojo; el director de Marketing de Flex, Gerardo España; el director Comercial de Northgate, Eduardo González de La Rocha, además de otros patrocinadores y los presidentes de la Federación Española y de Castilla y León de Ciclismo, José Luis López Cerrón y Roberto Coca, respectivamente.

Alberto Contador, por su parte, destacó que su apuesta por el ciclismo es “por hacer las cosas bien, porque así es como al final llegan los resultados, aunque no es eso lo más importante para nosotros, si no formar a los chavales y hacer que conozcan el ciclismo”.

En cuanto a él mismo, sí dijo que, en profesionales, “se trabaja para conseguir victorias y espero que este año vaya mejor que el pasado. Estoy muy motivado y muy ilusionado. He podido hacer una preparación más tranquila que la del 2013, trabajando la base y espero que se vea en la carretera”.

Alberto dijo que no se le había hecho muy larga la espera para empezar a competir porque “quería tener la tranquilidad de poder trabajar duro en los entrenamientos. Me gusta la competición, pero yendo con garantías. Ahora ya está hecho el trabajo y es la hora de competir”.

El miércoles comenzará su programa con la Vuelta al Algarve, una carrera que le gusta mucho, aunque “será la toma de contacto con la competición y habrá corredores mucho más rodados que tengan más ritmo que yo. El objetivo es ir sumando kilómetros y pensar en las próximas carreras, Tirreno, Catalunya y País Vasco”, concluyó.
